Be in Balance Counselling |
Pregnancy consultation
A one hour private session for couples to prepare for life and love after baby. During this time we will discuss your expectations of parenthood, how to recognize and negotiate the needs of mum, dad and baby, how to build up a support system, education about preventing Post Natal and Paternal Postpartum Depression and how to prepare for and cope with the changes and challenges normally experienced by new parents. A complementary personalised copy of the book “Becoming Us, Loving, Learning and Growing Together, the Essential Relationship Guide for Parents” is included with each consultation.
Counselling
Making the decision to seek the support of a counselor is a big one. Most of us don’t like talking about things that trouble us and opening up to a complete stranger can be awkward at best. Knowing how counseling can help and what to expect can make it easier.
How Counselling Can Help
Life throws storms at all of us and periods of relationship or life turmoil can leave us vulnerable, but we don’t have to cope on our own. Counseling can help by providing:
• guidance through a sticky patch in life
• emotional support to cope with a life transition
• a safe place to find your inner voice
• support for building confidence, self esteem and assertiveness
• healing through sharing hurts with someone who cares
• re-building broken bonds or creating new ones
What to Expect
Much of the first session is getting to know each other. Different counselors work in different ways and specialize in different areas. Clients can have different ideas about what they want from counseling, or may come in with no expectations at all. Different personalities fit in different ways. For all these reasons it’s a good idea to shop around until you find someone you feel comfortable with and the fit is right for both. Getting a sense that your counselor is interested, experienced, professional and trustworthy is an important start.
A counselor will generally ask for a history of the problem or situation and the ways you have tried to manage this in the past. They may be interested in getting a family history too, to see how far the issue goes back or from the perspective of other family members. Then, depending on the counsellor’s training and background, they will offer suggestions on a joint course of action and an idea of how long that might take and see how comfortably these fit with your hopes or expectations of counseling. If a referral is necessary, the counselor will put you in contact with others who are best able to support you.
Our counselor specializes in Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT is a holistic therapy that helps clients balance thinking, feeling and doing to create emotional wellbeing. Emotionally Focused Therapy has also been proven to be the most effective treatment for couple relationships.
Counselling Services
Personal Counselling – emotional and practical support to find ways to manage a specific issue or problem.
Couple Counselling – Relationships are challenging! When we’re under stress we want our relationship to be a source of comfort and strength, but under stress some relationships can start to unravel. Couple counseling can raise your awareness of yourself and your partner and support you both in pulling together and build strong foundations for your relationship so it can reward you for years to come.
Therapy – The most important relationship we will ever have in life is the one with ourself. This is because all other relationships are an extension of this one. Therapy works by co-creating a relationship with someone you can trust who values you, sees your potential and can support you in realising it for yourself.
